President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday joined Nigerians to mark the 2024 Democracy Day at the Eagle Square in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city. The President inspected the Guard of Honour and observed their annual parade as part of activities to mark this year’s Democracy Day, his second in office.
Among the dignitaries present include Vice President Kashim Shettima; Senate President Godswill Akpabio; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas; Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Femi Gbajabiamila; service chiefs; amongst others.
Democracy Day is celebrated yearly on June 12 in honour of the winner of the June 12, 1993, presidential election, the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola and other heroes of democracy.
Earlier, in his Democracy Day speech, the President honoured Abiola and other heroes of democracy.
He also rallied Nigerians to support his administration’s efforts to strengthen the economy and informed citizens that a bill for a new minimum wage will be sent to the National Assembly soon, among other things.
