The submarine cables along the coasts of Cote d’Ivoire and Senegal, which caused disruptions in data and voice services, have now been restored to about 90% of their maximum capacity.
According to a statement by Reuben Muoka, the Director of Public Affairs at the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), mobile network operators have assured that data and voice services will function optimally until the undersea cables are fully repaired.
Muoka mentioned that the operators have activated alternative connections to bring the situation back to normal.
He also explained that the affected operators have recovered nearly 90% of their maximum capacity by utilizing undamaged submarine cables.
The NCC expressed its appreciation to telecom consumers for their patience during the period when the undersea fiber cuts caused disruptions.
MainOne, a leading company that provides submarine cable systems, said on Friday that it may take up to five weeks to repair its damaged submarine cable.
According to their initial investigations, the company determined that an external incident caused the fault. This incident led to a cut along the West African coast in the Atlantic Ocean, specifically offshore Cote d’Ivoire.
