A Lagos State magistrate court yesterday remanded in Ikoyi prison custody pending when he is able to perfect his bail conditions a Chinese National Yang Houqi 38, who allegedly obtained goods worth N12,314,500, under false pretence
The defendant who was arraigned before Magistrate Joy Ugbomoiko, is facing a three count charge bordering on conspiracy, obtaining under false pretense and stealing preferred against him by the Police.
The prosecutor Inspector Francis Igbinosa told the court that the defendant and others still at large conspired to commit the alleged fraud.
He said that the incident took place at Ikeja on May 31, at about 7:30am.
Igbinosa said that Houqi fraudulently obtained donkey skin valued N12,314,500, from one Alexander Oriaku under disguise of buying same from the complainant.
The prosecutor said the offence committed is punishable under section 411, 314 (a) (b) and 287 of the criminal laws of Lagos State 2015.
When the charge was read to the defendant he pleaded not guilty to the crime.
However Magistrate Ugbomoiko, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1million, with two sureties in like sum.
She said that one of the sureties must have a registered company and produce evidence of corporate tax.
Magistrate Ugbomoiko also ordered that the office and the residential addresses of the sureties must be verified.
Consequently the defendant was remanded in ikoyi prison pending when he is able to perfect his bail conditions.
She adjourned the case till October 19, for mention.
